Sojourn BFA Thesis 2006

There is too much to be said about the 3000 mile road trip and eleven day journey that Meaghan and I took in March of 2006.  Inspired by our trip to Phoenix and back, we planned, at the spur of the moment, an epic sojourn through the west of America.  We flew into Denver and began our snaking trail through Colorado Springs, Wolf Creek Pass, The Four Corners, Zion National Park, Las Vegas, Los Angelos, up the PCH to San Francisco, through the redwoods and Highway 101 to Portland and Seattle.  Needless to say, it was a life altering experience and the basis for my BFA Thesis.  The final product was nearly 1500 photographs and millions of memories that I laid out in three separate pieces for the show that I entitled Sojourn.

In April of 2006 at the SoFA Gallery in Bloomington, IN I exhibited Recollection, an installation piece of snapshots, receipts, maps and other collectibles that showed our trip in the blink of an eye.  Adjacent to that was the video 3000 mph which exhibited all the snapshots and videos that we took on our trip in chronological order - sped up and showcasing our eleven day journey in eighteen minutes.  And finally, the piece Places We Are and Places We Should Not Be summed up everything that I spent my BFA career trying to showcase - humanity in its absence and nature eroding away.
